Converting an 82 2wd to IFS 4wd?

Hi,

So I have been looking (Not that hard) for a 4x4 solid axle. They seem to be scarce. But i see IFS 4x4's all over the place.

How hard would it be to convert my 2wd RV (82 PU) to 4WD IFS?

Search!!

It all depends on your skill level

How much time you want to spend.

if your going to all that work I would think about a solid axle swap I would think alot less work

There are so many different ways to do this you need to figure out just what you want.

2wd frames are different. They narrow in at the front.

I was thinking of splicing in a 4x4 frame some place about mid door.

Although I would really need to lay under a 2wd truck and measure and compare things

That was in my opinion why I suggested it would be easier to do a SAS

More work to this then most think about

If this is one of those trucks converted to a camper it makes it more interesting

Comes down to the OP skill level

time and amount of budget.

Then what is the goal of doing this.

I just have to wonder about a vehicle this old unless it was in climate control storage the last 20 years.

It could very easy turn into a major restore from the ground up.

Even swapping the body onto a newer 4x4 truck could be interesting.

comes back to time and $$$

I'd just do a sas it would be way easier than converting your 2wd ifs to 4wd ifs. Believe it or not they are way different my 2wd used to have torsion bars on the bottom and on 4wd they go to the top plus it would be way to easy to mess up anything on it like camber or horrid tire wear from the tire sticking out farther at the top than at the bottom ect
Imo you can mess up one thing in a sas and worse case senerio the truck dog tracks down the road (not a huge deal just looks weird)
When I did my truck I found a solid axke parts truck and cut all the factory brackets off, leafsprings and placed them on my frame and drove straight till I hir a curb pretty hard and messed up s TRE
Just saying if it were me I would do a sas
Also just a heads up get the tranny crossmember from the truck you pull the tranny and tcase from because the 2wd is way different and welded on. I never saw that tidbit of info whem I was doing mine and it caught me by suprise cause I had to keep my 2wd tranny for like 2 months after my sas
