Budbuilt---> BudBroke

After two faithful years of service my bud built xcase skid finally gave up the ghost. I've gotta say, i'm impressed with the beating this thing has taken. Highly recomeneded product.

The pics are hard to see, but basically the plate folded just behind the xmember, and is now pinned against the case. This means that anytime the drivetrain is under load, it makes a horrific noise and the whole truck vibrates. Yeah. Sucky.

Not sure what i'm going to do now. Been thinking of lifting the guts, but that is a lot of work that i don't want to do right now. Perhaps the timetable has moved up eh?

Could you bend it back? Maybe take it off, flip it over and temporarily mount it upside down, then use a jack to bend it back towards straight?

hack it off at the crease, weld it back on straight, and weld on some 3/8" plating to beef it up more and prevent future bends

good ideas. I'd thought about bending it back, just wasn't looking forward to the bashfest with a hammer. There isn't a lot of room to weld to it the way it is set up. I could weld to the bottom, but that will decrease my already atrocious ground clearence.

Can you get a bottle jack up above it to push it down?

no go on the bottle jack, it would just damage my floor or my transfer case.

I'm not going to contact bud, i have no issue with his product whatsoever. Its been phenomenal all the time i've had it. Only so much abuse that stuff will handle.

The obvious, easy, and probably more expensive solution: Buy another one!

I think the wabbit might of been suggesting to contact Bud, praise him of his great product, tell him what happened to it, and ask what he recommends to do.

Just take it off and start beating the crap out of it man, geez

Remove the plate. Take it to a metal shop where they can put it in a brake and straighten it out for you. Clean up the area on the plate where it was contacting the x-fer case. Then make a rubber isolator: Get a thin layer of high density rubber, the kind they use at loading docks, or even a slice from an old tire, and epoxy it on that spot. Reinstall the plate. Next time it bends up, you won't have metal to metal contact.

You can get it off right? Just flip it upside down under and axle, put a jack on it and jack the truck up till the skid is straight. I had to do this for my front IFS skid by Bud, work like a champ.

+1.

I'm sure Bud will be happy to hear you like his product.

+1 on the 'remove it, bend it back, re-inforce it if you want, and put it back.'

Can you buy just that piece that is bent?? I don't have a clue on the actual design but by looking at the pictures, doesn't it bolt onto the main crossmember piece??

Yes, it just bolts to the crossmember. No need to buy a new one, just straighten this one - the trick is figuring out how ... probably just run over it with the truck ...

Don't want to go replacement. Stock budbuilts have countersunk holes for a flat belly. I bent all the threads on the bolts, and thus they had to be cut/drilled out. There is still one in there. There are new holes drilled and G-8 bolts.

it will get bent back as soon as i have time.
