Aussie in front and E-Locker in rear or viceversa

Hello all,

I'm beginning to adapt my truck for the planned SAS.

I've two E-Lockers at home with broken gears out of two different Toyota Prado:

One of them is for a friend, I got the two units for 700$, I think it's a pretty good price.

Well, I'm receiving my '89 Hilux SFA this week and I'm selling my actual V6 Diff + Detroit Soft Locker + 4.10 Gears, so I'll have one 4 cyl open diff and one E-Locker.

At first I wanted to change the Detroit for the E-Locker and put an Aussie Locker in the 4cyl diff, but I'm thinking to do the opposite... Put the 4cyl+Aussie in the rear and the E-Locker front.

Now I've an IFS Aussie Locker and a Detroit Soft Locker in the rear so I'm used to the way it handles and I don't mind having the auto locker in the rear for the DD since I've learnt to predict it's working manners.

I really love the locker in the rear, but sometimes I get angry when I'm trapped between trees and cannot turn the steering wheel due to the Aussie in the front...

I know that the 4cyl diffs are not as strong as the V6 ones, I think it's due to the spider gears desing, but I wanted to be sure. Would I be fine (In strength words) if I put the 4cyl diff with an Aussie in the rear and the E-Locker in the front?

Thanks,

David

I think you should go for it. The 4-cyl is not that much different than the V6, the V6 just has more metal plates on the carrier and a bigger main bearing.

An e-locker in the front would be better so you can turn!

People usually put the stronger diff in the rear.

This means the E-locker in the rear.

Having smoked one rear gear set, I would put as much strength back there as possible.

I've never broken the rear gears but the front ones (IFS ones).

There was the Prado owners who broke them...

Are the 4 cyl gears weaker than the V6 ones or it's only the spider gears that I'll be replacing with the Aussie?

Thanks,

David

I don't think there's much difference in strength really...and yes, the Aussie would address one of the issues (2 spider vs 4 design)
