3rd gen aussie locker
#21
What it means is that there is no "3rd Gen Aussie Locker."
There will be an application for Toy V-6 diffs, but it is not out yet. I was trying to educate since the mystery of what exactly a 3rd Gen has for diffs is no longer witchcraft.
Manual locker is identically equal to selectable locker. Lockers of this sort are turned on and off using air, electricity, or external mechanical manipulation like the OX. When locked, both sides are tied together until the switch is thrown again. ARB, E-lockers and OX lockers are examples.
Auto locker is a locker that ties both sides together when the throttle is applied. When you coast, they are not tied together anymore. There are two subgroups. One called "lunchbox" the replaces only the spiders. These would be Lock-Right, EZ-Locker, Aussie Locker, No-Slip. The other is called "regular" I suppose and replaces the whole carrier as in the Detroit Soft-Locker. The ones that replace the carrier are stronger and do not exagerate deterioration in factory components like the "lunchboxes."
LSD's are not lockers. They are for the street and are not worth the time if you wheel it IMHO. I ran a True-Trac, now I have dual ARB's.
I am not being as smart ass, just dropping knowledge.

I just didn't understand the term soft-locker.
Now that I understand what it means, I still don't want one.
Problem?

If I didn't have an e-locker, I'd probalby be running an auto locker in the rear. Probalby would be a powertrax no slip. Usually these aren't bad to install. If you get an auto locker save the money and install it yourself....

Honestly, I have no idea why you guys are all over me for. (Maybe I am that stupid)
Maybe I didn't make things clear or perhaps one is not liked very well here if one tends to ask a lot of what seems to be, obvious questions.
Although I may seem mentally retarded, honest truth, I really am not (at least nothing that I am mentally aware of).
I know what a selectable locker; the term speaks for itself.
The same can be said for a limited slip differential. Hey, if a guy like myself, who is mentally retarded can decipher the words, "limited slip"... it's not that hard although I may make it seem like it is.
I know and knew what a soft locker is but I wasn't exactly sure how it worked differently from a limited slip, though I knew it worked different.
That's how clear I can get it, so bear with my mental retardation.
I think I was sounding more intelligent than I was--and am.
Despite knowing the difference in the three, I didn't exactly knew which was applied to what level of terrain for more significant gain.
Clear?
I knew that a soft locker was, well, softer (than the original), I knew that a LSD is suppose limit the slip (have experienced them before), and I knew that selectable was well, selectable depending on your choice.
Clear?
I just didn't know why you would choose a soft-locker over a LSD.
Either way, I am not and was never interested in neither of them, and if it sounded like I was to begin with, again, pardon SELF (it's rather difficult to cope with a mental illness).
I thought I made it clear the first time: I want a selectable locker.
Thanks for your time and coopeartion.

Aussie has gotten some pretty good reviews that I can see but I think I'm more partial to selectable. I like knowing that I'm in control of what's going on back there.
Not that I have one mind you
I'm just thinking in terms of inclement weather. Don't get too much here in SoCal but you never know.

I meant no harm and mean no harm. I have never maligned anyone on the board indirectly and when I have thought things innane and outrightly foolish, I have said so in no uncertain terms. I shoot from the hip, no hard feelings on my end.
If you are offended by what Steve said, he is one of the upstanding members of the board and I have never seen him posting anything inflammatory. I do not know for sure, but I did not interpret what he said as mean, only curious.
RT is spot on.

I have a Detroit Soft Locker--it is the strongest and most expensive type of auto locker and is very predictable on the street. Lunchbox lockers like the Aussie, ez, lockrite are not as strong and the ones I have seen are very noisy and unpredictable.
If I would have had an extra $600 I would have bought and ARB, but for half of the $1200 an Arb costs I went with the Detroit.
By far the best mod I have done to my runner.

That's a pretty bold statement if you can't provide any examples.
Not trying to be a smart allic, I seriously want to know.
