Why is it difficult to get this part #?

I tried to get the exact part # for Shift Solenoid E from the toyota parts counter for the price. The parts guy said he would need to see the old part to know which one to get. He showed me his diagram on his computer and it didn't label one as "E". Any ideas on getting the correct part #?
Cheers!

My dealer uses the VIN to verify parts. He has told me the number on the parts mostly don't reference the database so... Try another dealer?? Good Luck!
