T100 Lift recomendations

Need some advise

As far as I'm aware you can either get a 4" suspension lift or body lifts. Does anyone recomend a lift product?

I'm thinking of doing just a 2" Body lift, because a suspension lift is to spendy for me right now. I know that Performace accesories sells a kit for like $135. Does anyone have this? Has anyone one done a Roger Brown (4crawler) lift. I've been pleased with his lifts before, but his website says that dimensions would have to be given for T100 applications....

Also, is the Deckplate Mod recomended for T100's?

Any advise is appreciated

How about a 1.5" Ball Joint Spacer lift in the front, with a 1" 4Crawler body lift and 1.5 shackle lift (3 inch longer shackle) in the rear? Crank the torsion bars a little and you've got a cheap 3" lift that should clear 33's OK.

I think the more common 4" suspension lift is the Pro Comp stage II lift. Trailmaster offers a 4" SL kit. For lottery winners, Total Chaos Fab offers a long travel IFS kit. Never did the deckplate mod, but it works for the 3.4, and it'll work in the T100.

Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good combination if you're going for the fewest bux possible. I waitited til 4 Wheel Parts was having a pretty good sale on ProComp stuff and went for the full 4" susp lift. It wasn't too bad with their labor costs.

mrmojo,

Truth be told, I'd definitely do a body lift of some kind. My philosophy on lifting the T100 has evolved, and thankfully through the experience of others and not by lifting my own.

You may have already noticed this about your T, but the frame is tucked way up at a higher level than the body. This means in any kind of off-road situation, the body of your truck is prone. Additionally, look at the profile of your truck and you'll notice the transfer case skidplate is a protrusion in your profile. In my mind, these are the two biggest reasons for a lift... and the only lift that solves these problems is a body lift.

A 2" or 3" body lift reduces the depth that your frame sits up under your body. Additionally, it allows room for a low-profile tranny crossmember. Finally, with a low-pro crossmember you can tuck the tranny/transfer case up in the space you just made with the body lift.

I've owned a 4" Superlifted T100. The Superlift front crossmember for the IFS was just slightly higher than the stock front crossmember in terms of ground clearance... and the lifted rig had 33" tires over the stock 31". In my mind, that's a lot of money for very little gain in actual ground clearance.

Now, as for the Ball-joint spacer and add-a-leaf and/or shackle solution, I still think that is king. It is the least modification to your truck for a moderate amount of lift. This is the route I'd be most likely to pursue. Although I've heard some argue that the Ball-joint spacer may put additional stress on the IFS A-arms. There has been no demonstrated case of this though... so take that criticism with a grain of salt.

Wow... a little long-winded. Hope this helps.

Joel

Wow! Somebody named Joel has been spending a lot of time under his truck. The body over frame issue is something I hadn't previously taken into account when considering lifting the T. Thanks Joel, you learned me something today!

I think he's dead on with getting the body and T-case up and out of the way. I will agree with his statement that a 4" Pro Comp lift does not allow more "lift." These kits make the IFS components longer, but in a downward direction, not up.

I noticed this firsthand this past weekend when I parked my non lifted T on 285's next to a T100 with the Pro Comp 4" lift on 35 MTR's. The clearance between my front skidplate and his was less than 2 inches even though his tires are 3 inches taller with 4 inches of lift. The rear diff height was also less than 2 inches, but I didn't check the T-case differences.

So it seems that lifting your truck depends on what you're hoping to achieve and what type of trails you want to run. For mud, sand and washboards, to clear larger tires and perhaps add strength to your IFS, go with a commercial suspension lift. For rocks and high clearence trails, to keep the body out of harm's way and clear larger tires go with a body lift and BJ spacer lift. Instead of longer shackles you could opt for an add-a-leaf or a new leaf spring pack with a 3" lift.

Good stuff Joel!

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I will go with the 1.5" Ball joint Spacer lift and either shackles or blocks in the back, with a 1" BL.

Doing this setup, what things will I need to extend? (transfer case,4X4 shifter, front bumper, brake lines???)

Mrmojo,
With a 1" BL I'm pretty sure you can get away with not extending anything. I know that with a 2" BL, the only thing you have to extend on the T100 is the 4x4 shifter. Brake lines don't need extended unless you go with a 3" BL.

Bagger,
I'm pleased I could help ya! Check your 4x4wire PM.
