Starter Replacement Issues
2000 Tundra 4.7L
I have had the task of replacing the starter. I bought the more expensive Duralast Gold Starter (was not the same size as OEM) I called the shop to douple check the part number. After installing it the trucks starts YAY! Now it won't idle. I didn't change the intake manifold gasket, but it didn't look bad when I was putting it back on. I took pictures of all vacuum lines I removed and I double checked all lines. I did take the fuel rails off to try to make it easier to remove the intake manifold. Pretty sure nothing got in there and doesn't seem like the way its idling would be the problem. No injectors are leaking.
Truck turns on then idles rough for about 20-30 seconds and then shuts off/idles off. Will idle at higher RPMS, then slowly get lower and lower tell it idles out. There does seem like a slight hissing, which leads me to believe the intake manifold gasket is leaking, which is causing the issue. Anyone else agrees? Anything helps? Could the starter be arching on the block from the battery cable?
