Hi all. I just spent a couple hours looking back through the search pages and did not find my issue. Lots of good info, but nothing was like my surrent issue. I posted this situation over at TS and in a search there I learned about yotatech


So here it goes:

I have a 2001 Tundra, V8 SR5. It is the simple model. No ABS, No power locks etc. It has been a champ. It has about 153,000 miles on it now. I did have some front end issues which required replacing the front diff. Since that time I have had it into 4wd several times without issue. Then 2 weekends ago I get in a huge twist, 1 rear tire 3 feet off the ground. No biggy just hit the button and off I go, right??? Wrong. Nothing the dash light just flashed. So I start trouble shooting. The T-Case engaged as the driveline was turning, but the front was not catching. So I start folowing wires. Everything looks connected. So after an hour or so I am reduced to stacking rocks and using the handi-man. I get it hoome over the week and look everytihing over. Still no 4wd. The light in the cab flashed, but does not send the beep like it used too. Since it is hunting season I am out every weekend and off road my truck hard. On friday I get under. Check everything out. Still nothing. I do notice a slight leak in the T-Case so I top it off. Then proceed to get amd and hit everything with a hammer. All connections and etc. The Add unit and the Tcase connections etc.

Decide I will just have to head to elk camp in 2wd and hope for the best. About 2 miles out of town while going 25 I hiot the button and I get 4wd. I have it all weekend. No issues it goes in and out easily etc. Then this week I try it and nothing again.

Any ideas? This truck does not appear to have any vacuum to teh add unit. Atleast no place to attach it that I can find. So that is out. Again teh Tcase turns the driveshaft, but nothing in the front.

I know I am new here, but am hopeful that this will be a succes story for me and Yotateach.

Again I spent a couple hours here searching.

 

I'd take it to the dealership. Seriously. I know it's out of warranty, but they can still fix it.

 

Did you try posting on tundrasolutions.com, there's a lot more Tundra owners over there than here.

Also, about the no vacuum lines, my 2001 4Runner has an electric actuator for the ADD, maybe the Tundra's are the same. If it is electric could be a loose or dirty connection.

 

Yeah I have posted over at TS and so far no real ideas. Thats why Iended up here. I am pretty sure it has to be electrical since after smacked everything it decided to work for a weekend. It there a fluid sensor in teh front diff? Thanks for the try.

As far as takingit to the dealer... The closest toyota dealer is over 100 miles away. It is just a pain, but if I have too, I will.

 

if the light is flashing it means that the system is throwing a code, it probably has a short or a bad connector somewhere, look at and clean all your connectors, go to a shop or autozone or somewhere that can pull the code with a scan tool.
