CAM sensor

anyone know why these replacement cam sensors for 2uzfe come with a metal plate over the sensor? some replacement brands have it while others do not. would seem odd to go through the trouble of drilling and tapping holes just to hold a protective cover, and to boot the cover is not some scrap metal, seems to be die pressed into shape, is very thin, and is non-magnetic.

update: Beck/Arnley says its an aluminum protective cover and is used in service (B/A says Toyota added this cover for a heat problem they needed to solve). from the looks of the sensor i took out of my 2006 gx470 this cover will also help protect the sensor from "wind" damage, more so say for Tundra that is used in more work capacity, etc.
