01 Sequoia engine ticking at startup

Hello -

I know there are posts out there on this subject and I have done a ton of research but non of the symptoms I've read about are the same as I'm experiencing. So I bought this vehicle a week ago and I'm getting the notorious clicking/ticking sound from the driver's side ONLY when the vehicle is under load. From what I've heard, this could be a cracked manifold or noisy valve train. This vehicle does not have a toyota oil filter on it, which I've read that the yota filters have a valve in them to prevent oil from draining out of the head/valves. The ticking goes away within a couple minutes of the engine running. The interesting part is that if the vehicle is up to full operating temp and i shut it off for 3-5 minutes, the sound comes back when i re-start and take off. It seems like if it's the manifold, it would not have enough time to cool down enough and open the crack up again in only 5 mins, but i could be totally wrong. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I'll go with the exhaust manifold, or at least the exhaust manifold gasket. If I have my facts straight, the manifold is cast iron and the heads are aluminum. The different metals have different cooling rates which could open up any sealing effect a warm and running engine may produce.

As for the anti-drainback valve in the filter, I was under the impression that any reputable filter would have the drainback valve as required by the manufacturer. I know I'm not using a Toyota filter and I do not have that problem....
