So I back in August I bought my wife a 2017 RAV4. When I got it home I notice an oil drip. I’m new to the filter housing design so once I understood the concept I unscrewed the housing and cleaned it, replaced the element and oring seal. This fixed the leak it seemed until yesterday when I noticed a drip again. It was close to oil change time so I unscrewed the housing again and looked at the inside surface with a flashlight. To my horror I saw gouging from most likely a screwdriver. I’m assuming someone did this trying to remove a stuck oem plastic housing. The housing when I bought the car is aluminum. To my knowledge this gouged area is part of the lower crank cover assembly and not bolt on. Any suggestions except return to dealer?
