type of lubricant in xfer/ diffs- synthetic?

hi,
as i'm going thru our new (to us) '97, i'm updating all the maint...

my question is what are the rest of you putting in the xfer case and diffs?
manual calls for multi-purpose 75w90 in xfer-- ok. i can find synthetic that fits that.
manual calls for hypoid straight 80w in diffs---i CAN'T find that in syn, which i want. people are saying the same 75w90 syn used in xfer is good enough?

any thoughts? thanks.

When I did the scheduled maintenance on my '97, I just put the recommended oil viscosity/non-synthetic in the x-fer case & diffs. I figured the truck hardly ever gets driven off-road since it's the missus. Plus, I plan to replace fluids once every year or two anyway.

I'm using German made, Lubro Moly ATF III trans fluid in both cars. Have been using Lubro since early 90's on all my German cars and have worked great in my Toyotas so far.

I've been very happy with Redline's products as mentioned above. I will say I had trouble running Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil in my manual transmission. It was so slippery that the synchros in the tranny did not work properly. Running Redline MTL (Maual Transmission Lube) fixed that problem.

Ditto on the Redline. I initially put Amsoil in all the diffs, t/case, and transmission and the shifting was not what I had hoped. I left the Amsoil in the diffs and T/case but drained the transmission and refilled with the Redline MT-90. It is much better now.

AMSOIL 75w90 in diffs and xfer here and no problems. I run the same in my Tacoma. I have used Redline in the past but now use AMSOIL since I can get it a lot cheaper than Redline around here. I cannot tell the difference between the two other than in the wallet.
