I own an 86 FJ60; have already swapped in an H55f and replaced the t-case. I also have a OME upgraded suspension. Next up is the engine - I want to replace the entire thing to get more power and fuel efficiency. Ideally, I'd like to put a Toyota V8 in there - probably the 1UZ-FE engine they made.
I can't find much information about this kind of a swap, however. It seems that most people put a Chevy 350 if they swap anything in, because its easy and cheap.
After inquiring at TLC 4x4, and learning this swap was more popular in Japan, I want to know what is involved in it - what kind of input shaft does the H55f take? What output shaft does the 1UZ-FE have? what adapter kits are necessary?
Thought I would start a thread for information and parts.
Any others you may have???

If only I could easily post all the links for Cruisers I have in my favorites... But the list so far is super good. Here's a couple good LC History and Info sites:
TLC FAQ Which is actually on Birfield.com which was mentioned already...
1960 BJ type 25: Pretty much the only place you're gonna find parts for a 25 series would be through Spectre. But, there are a few LC gurus that are into 25s and may be able to help you find parts. You can find 'em hanging out on the IH8MUD BB or on the LC Section of Pirate4x4. HTH.

It does not work from Google Drive, it's a zip archive, that needs to be downloaded & unzipped. You must not change the catalog tree, to use - open index.html file, and you shall be presented with a full interactive graphical menu. It contains all versions and varieties of J8 I could find, for US, JDM, Europe such as: trunk door type (barn door, horizontal tailgate) tranny (ATM/MTM), spare wheel carrier (undeneath, on the t-gate), rear axle (semi float, full float), rear brakes (drums, disks) etc etc. As for the engine - only 1FZ-FE for now, I'm not really interested in 3F series so it's not included.
Also for folks interested in some neat V8 swap:
