Post I finally got the LC fixed....

Well, as some of you may know, my step-mom's '96 LC has had the CE light on for quite some time. The code was for the EGR. After replacing the EGR the light was still on. So I replaced the Modulator and that cleared the problem right up. I was kinda worried at first because the part that the dealership gave me was different from the part that was on there. But everything works and fits correctly so I don't care.

The dealership wanted $500+ to replace the EGR, Modulator, and VSV. I replaced the EGR and Modulator and ended up saving my step-mom $300+ dollars by doing it myself.

Thanks for all the help.

AgRunner06,

I bet your step-mom is proud of you! So you finally fixed the CE light and the problem associated with it. Good job! So you have just replaced the EGR and Modulator? What about the VSV, did you replace it too? I know it is PITA to replace that one because it is well hidden under the intake plenum/chamber. What was the code number for that EGR/Modulator CE light?

Congrats on a job well done!!!

Yeah, I just replaced the EGR and modulator. I wasn't even going to attempt the VSV. The dealership can tackle that one. Sorry, I don't know the code. My step-mom had it pulled at the dealership. The code did encompass three possible problems with the EGR system: the EGR itself, the modulator, or the VSV. The dealership wanted to replace all three. Yeah, my step-mom was pretty happy about saving that amount of money.

The modulator that I got from the dealership was different from the original part. It had a different part number. It was also slightly shaped different. That had me wondering if maybe they gave me the wrong part. So I decided to try it anyways. It fit in the the clip just the way it should and everything hooked up just fine. It works fine so I'm not worried about it. If I was still home I would post a pic of the two parts but I'm not.

It's a good feeling when you save a nice chunk of change by doing a little work yourself.
