goodbye 4Runner, hello Landcruiser

PM me if you think you will.Where abouts are you from?
Also, what's this bunk about solid axle being rougher than IFS??? The solid axle cruiser rides like its hydroplaning on a layer of double cream, at least on small bumps (haven't tried large bumps yet). I think solid axle gets a bad rep from people who screw it up by trying to put seriously arched-springs or have terrible shackle-angles. At stock height, the ride differences are negligible.

You're on the Island too Matt? I'm back and forth there all year. There was a really nice Landcruiser(like yours) for sale in Victoria when I was there in December, it was beige but I don't know if it was a diesel.

I don't know, I have a 40 and its not scary tippy. On the highway it kinda leans but only so far and then stops. It feels way better though. My old front springs were stiff and bent and just plain sucked so the SOA made a huge difference. Just drive it and wheel it and when its time to do an SOA then do it. Don't do it becuase people tell you to, just let the truck evolve.
Have fun on the road trip!

Headlight upgrade you say?
Well I can suggest the Bosch H4 conversion kit... they have them at Canadian Tire (may be a special order not all stores stock it)... beam is a euro spec spread pattern which is more efficient than NA DOT spec... cost is @90 cdn kit includes a pair of 60/55 halogens but you can swap in any H4 type including HIDs...
There are two kits one with round lens and one with rect. make sure you get the right one ordered...
Here's a link for you http://www.boschlightsandmore.com/pr...rsion_kits.htm
CT has them for sale cheaper than the price noted there.
Hellas are also an option but they cost twice as much roughly and don't come with bulbs.

sick cruiser matt
those diesels are the best, my auto teacher had one just like that and he got almost as good milage as his new toyota hybrid lol he also had a bj40 with the 3B and it haddent been started in 5 years, all we did was hook up a battery, put the fuel line in a cup of diesel, primed it and it started right up with no wires but a battery to the starter. amazing engines. i wantone in my truck hehe

Yesterday, I finished my last exam of the term, then I blitzed over to the Island to pick up the truck from the guy who patched the frame for me. The mech tightened up the hard lines between the injector pump and the injectors so they didn't leak at the pump end and wow, driving it back home it felt like a different truck. The motor pulls every bit as hard on the highway as the 22RE on my 4RUnner did, but has way more grunt to it.
On the trip home, which required an hour and a half ferry boat ride, i spotted a killer whale too. Icing on the cake.

an orca? sweet... that might suggest a name for the new beast in your driveway too... so you patched the existing frame so you can use her while you search for a new frame in better condition do I have that right?

THe frame was plated in the rusty areas by a Cruiser repair guy, I'm going to check out a frame today $500 shipped to my door about 100km away... not bad IMO.
I took the HJ60 on a fishing trip yesterday, it did 700km no problems, steering's a little loose, valve's are a little loud, and the suspension is a little harsh on bad roads, but aside from that, its great. On the highway, the 2H diesel pulls a bit like the 22RE in a 4Runner, but at slower speeds, the diesel has buckets more torque. In first gear, high range, it will idle up a steep road without complaining.
I've named the truck Hathi, the elephant from the Jungle Book lol
