I don't off-road. I drive my 93 Land Cruiser like most other drivers in Southern California--which consists of freeways and local roads and the biggest obstacles being large potholes or badly repaired streets. today my transmission refused to come out of shiftlock. the car hasn't had any transmission issues before, and it had been working fine up to about 20 minutes prior. I parked the car, walked into a store to pickup something, and after I came out...it refused to come out of park. the engine started, everything worked excpet the gearbox. Thankfully i still had my manual and got the car home....but does anyone have an idea as to why such a thing would happen? the manual didn't explain anything...it just told me how to get out of it and to take it to a mechanic. Anything like this happen to other folks?

 

Does your brake lights work? The shift lock gets its signal from the brake light switch .

 

i have a 91 lc w/4.0 auto, if i shut my truck off before i put it in park, i have to hold down the shiftlock button to take it back out of park.
