94 LC front/rear lockers and 4:56 gears installed

After many many months of planning and organizing everything I would need I finally have a fully locked rig. Here are the pics

Starting off with pulling the rear pumkin

I was surprise how easy it was. After everything was out I took it to Four X doctor in Burbank CA. and they installed the lockers and gears. I told them to install the air hole on the top, but did not tell them to avoid the brake bracket you see here. Ofcourse thats exactly where they installed the air hole  So I just bent the bracket back.

pic of the rear airline

My lines are setup with the Slee manifold aren't they purty.

Picture of the three magic switches, I relocated the rear heater switch to make room for all three switches.

Also used Slees compressor mount to tuck it in nice and tight. I still need to clean the wires up a little but thats okay.

I made the following mistakes

1. Ignoring the front brake bracket and not telling the shop to avoid adding the air hole righ underneath it. Bent the bracket back so the line could fit.

2. Broke two studs, in the rear hub and the front steering knuckle. Bought two studs from local stealer.

3. Did not install the front diff gasket correctly so it started to leak. Had to tear everything back down and reinstall a new gasket.

4. Installed one of the solenoids backwards. Removed it and corrected it.

Alot of work but very fullfilling experience. I learned alot and my confidence level shot through the roof. Well I was doing this job we did a rear axle job, and a full birth job. Saved a total of $1349 in shop cost. :grinpimp:

So what do you guys think?

I know my boy is excited he is already trying to get ideas on how to use these lockers.

and before anybody says anything about my posting skills, yes I learned from my last try.

Its not that hard of a job, just have to keep everything organized and plan ahead at least 10 steps. I made a few mistakes but nothing cruicial was damaged.

Good job dude. Looks real good. You have an advantage since solid axle thirds are a lot easier to remove/install than the 4runner IFS front diffs .

yeah, i wasn't worried about getting it right, it was just MAKING the time to do it.

anyway, you inspired me to get off my duff, so i got mine swapped out over the weekend. NICE. i can't wait to get the gears broken in so i can try out that front locker. yesterday i pulled my SC, so that's out of the way too.

Biff,

You're just running 33" tires right? Will the 456 gears work out better with the tire size? I am interested in your impressions and feedback.
Thanks

BTW...great job!

Yes I'm running 33s, no plans on going higher. The 4:56 gears seem to really bring me back to stock performance, which is what I wanted.

Get 4.88's so you can run 35's!

I considered 4.88s but figured it would be to much of a hassle to go up to 35s.

I'll bet it's less than a year and you'll be re-gearing for 35's.

Biff, want to place a small bet?

Just kidding of course.

Doug M.

CDog, Phil over on mud is going to re-gear, isn't he going to 4.88's or 4.56? I have been miserably sick and wasn't paying much attention to the fact thats he got a 4.5. I thought he had a V8. "Doh"

Not with the amt. of money and work I invested in this project. The only thing I might upgrade to are mt's same size though.
