1970 FJ40 diff question

I have a stock '70 FJ40 that has self-destructed the rear diff., and need to look for a replacement. Are the front and rear diff's the same, and interchangeable? The look the same externally.

Yup they are the same. Fronts are generally better because they are less used but sometimes guys want more money for them. Make sure you get the right ratio. The 410 has some numbers stamped on the outside of the ring gear that calculate out to 410, the 377 has nothing on it. Ones thicker ring gear but I can't remember which. You will most likely need a 410 but check what you have before you buy a new one. Good luck.
