need help with lift
#1
hi! i am new to this forum and i need help. i have a 96 t100 3.4 2wd that i picked up as a project truck. unfortunately i know nothing about lifts/ suspensions and a minimal amout about engines. im currently redoing the interior with bucket racing seats and tht kinda stuff. what i need help with is finding a lift for a 2wd truck. ive called and search out many shops and manufactureers but i get the same respose that no one makes that lift anymore. of course this cant be true since i see lifted t100 all over socal. what i would like to do to my truck is lift it about 6'' fron 4'' rear for a pre-runner look. im not trying to do a sky high lift but a suspension system that will allow me to take bumps and whatnot at 60mph. can anyone help me figure out how to accomplish this? im open to all advice and or constructive criticism. HELP

The rear is not gonna be the issue here, leaf-springs or coils, the worst you have to do is a little welding to re-locate some things. It seems like IFS lifts for 2wd t100s are few and far between, here's a few options:
Total Chaos might be able to help you out, they apparently offer or will be offering a long-travel kit, but expect it to be pricey: http://www.chaosfab.com/92200-T.php
You can also use Ball-Joint spacers to get a little lift in the front, but not nearly as much as you're looking for. http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...shtml#2WDor4WD You will need to find out what type of front suspension you have.
It sounds like if you have the suspension that requires the 4wd spacers you -might- be able to use some of the other 4wd ifs lift stuff.
Crank t-bars, or see if sway-a-way offers replacements and use those with the spacers, won't get you 6", but it'll get you somewhere.

However, if you have a 2WD truck, then the answer is a little more involved. The 4WD spacers also work with 2WD trucks with "pre-runner" type suspensions. A pre-runner suspension is essentially the same as a 4WD suspension with the front drivetrain (differential and CV axles/half shafts) removed. This would include of the 2WD 4Runner and some T-100 models. Typically also fit the 1996 and later Toyota Hilux 4WD pickup models (non-US) that use the same torsion bar front suspension with matching ball joints (check dimensions below to verify proper bolt hole spacing).

IFS = Independent Front Suspension, it means that the two front wheels aren't connected together by either a beam or live axle and can cycle "independently" giving a smoother ride.
As for your suspension, follow the instructions on 4crawler's site to figure out what IFS-style you have, I think it should be readily apparent which you have but you can post some pictures if you're unsure.

Yep, that's the IFS at work.
You should still check out the 4wd t100 subforum and do some searches there. The 2wd subforum here is rather new and if there's any valuable info on 2wd t100s it's probably in the other subforum.
