I think the 92 and newer trucks, the speedometer was electrically driven. The 91 and older is what would work best for you. I have seen newer ones in but speedometer would not work. Not sure if there is a fix to make it work.
I had an 87 2WD and that had a 4 speed in it. I wanted better mileage and had an 83 Celica with the 5 speed. It was a direct fit and worked perfect. I was at my local boneyard and in their storage shed, they happened to have a Celica tranny on the shelf. Just throwing out a few more options that you might want to consider.
On the Celica transmission, I did switch shifting sticks as the Celica was shorter and I liked the longer shifter, but it is just a personal preference. They interchange with no problems as well. Not sure when the Celica went to front wheel drive.
