TacoTacoma96's 1999 4runner Build-Up Thread

Well after selling my 94 pickup I bought this nice 4runner for $3k.

It's a 1999 4runner Limited v6 with 203,xxx miles on it. picked it up a week ago and feel in love from day 1. Its's got a few problems but there quick fixes. First there's the noticeable dent in the front bumper and in the back.

Went to the body shop and gonna get it fixed in a couple of weeks. A few things I've done so far is a new stereo with new front speakers and a Flowmaster exhaust that sounds amazing.

Its got the 3.4 V6 automatic and I love the power.

As for mods I'm still debating what to do. Here's my idea list:
  • Bilstein Shocks
  • Black 16x8 steel wheels
  • Maybe a lift kit
  • Cold Air Intake
  • Bull Bar with Hella Fog lights
Any and all ideas will be helpful.

Ive read somewhere on yota tech that the deckplate mod with the isr mod yeilds better results than a cold air intake

Thanks for the info. Well the 4runners in the shop and will be getting it back in a few days. Before I took it I did a tune-up and changed these...

I'm positive that those are the original Denso plugs. swapped them out for NGK plugs. also I put on a K&N Intake(pics soon) instead of the deckplate mod because I already had it. sounds amazing. next is the lights, grille guard and fog lights.

Thumbs up

Well got the truck back from the body shop and they did a great job on it

I decided to take a break from it and give it to Dad as a cruiser. going to work on my '96 Tacoma for a while.

Thumbs up Back Again

We'll its time to get back to my '99. Among the new things I've done is a new K&N intake system that really sucks some air.

Well I ordered some aftermarket taillights and headlights and the turned out great. The back was pretty self explanatory.

The third brake light is LEDs which are bight and cool looking.
The front required removal of the grille which wasn't to bad. The next is out with the old

And in with the new.

Since I got new headlights, it was fitting to change my burned out fog lights.

Got plans for a 2in lift on the way. Gonna reuse my black 15'' Steelies From my '94 with maybe some 32x11.50 Cooper STTs?

Great news. Getting my lift Wednesday. gonna get a 2in lift with new shocks and struts as of now they have 206,000 mile on them.
Just turned over yesterday.. gonna reuse these from my '94

After the lift im gonna wrap the rims with these in 32x11.50/15

never had any of these. are they a good tire or should I save up for BFG KM2's?

Well got my new lift on today. Its a 2in lift with brand new struts and shocks. Also got an alignment done to.

The lift is with spacers but it don't bother me. I'm gonna get some OME stuff later down the road. next thing is the wheels and tires. I'm debating on the 32s or 265/75-16s.

Thanks 4runnerSteve The muffler is a Flowmaster 40 if I remember right. Before I lifted my Runner the muffler rubbed on the coil spring. But after the lift It doesn't rub anymore

Well The newest update is that something happened that wasn't planned. My friend from high school liked my black rims originally for the Runner and traded me some Mickey Thompson bullet holes.

There 16x8 with 265/70-16 Cooper AT3s and looked like a pretty good deal if you ask me
Gonna get a pic after I put 'em on.

Nice wheels. Good thing too, those 15" wheels you traded probably wouldn't have fitted without some grinding on the calipers.

Thanks stockwell45. I already planned on grinding the calipers down because I had to on my '96 Tacoma. This just made it alot easier putting on new rims.

The backspacing is spot on because the are almost even with the fender flares. I decided to keep and run the Cooper AT3s because I like the looks. The plan is to move up to 265/75s later. All and all, I think it was a darn good trade. There isn't much left to do on the 4runner except install my new Cobra 75 WX ST CB radio. Also got some new Lloyd rubber floor mats. Planing on a ARB Bumper for the Taco. Can't wait

They fit great and really hold water (and mud) well. Also finally went on an off road venture in the Runner.

It was a ton of fun. The coopers did well in the mud but not as I hoped . The Runner really showed me what she can do. Can't wait till I go again
