Would You Say The 4Runner Is Somewhat Quick?

By the way, some Jeeps are pretty dang fast. In fact, the I6 5-speed Wranglers actually go pretty well...but I am thinking of the old 5.9's (when they were running).

you want a fast truck? these big diesel trucks that ford, chevy and dodge are making now a days are surprisingly fast... www.vegpoweredsystems.com if you look there, you can find diesel trucks that run on vegetable oil running slightly over 12 second quarter miles.
hijack off.. sorry ^_^
my 4runner was really reeeally slow with 305s with stock gears.. it feels like a jet plane now with the 265s haha.. but i still get worked usually my buddys dohc v6 ford focus beat me and i punched it slightly before he did haha.

Okay, well I have a 4th gen 4runner and a RSX-S, so I should have more than just secondhand evidence.
The 4th gen 4runner will whip a RSX off the line, and any other type of ricer that I can think of, but!!!! that's off the line. The 4runner is designed for torque, low end, it can beat a LOT of things from 0-20 or 0-40. Not just ricer's either, I could kill a A4, 3-series (non M3), volvo, etc. etc. OFF THE LINE.
Now, put my RSX-S on a racetrack with my 4runner and it won't even be a race. The RSX feels nice and smooth at 120-140mph, it will stay squatting and can move fairly freely from 90 to 140mph. I wouldn't take my 4th gen much over 100mph, and after the lift/tires I'd be lucky if I could even get to there.

I would categorize fast as in 13 sec in the 1/4 mile.
Those old school B13 Sentra SE-Rs are quite fast. They have a 140 hp SR20DE engine and weigh less than 2500 lbs. Weight plays a major role in how fast a car is. My 96 Maxima SE had a 190 hp VQ30DE engine, weighed in at 2980 lbs at a scale, and stock I ran a 14.9@93mph, not bad for a grocery getter, but I did have an advantage having a manual transmission.
About "getting of the line," I can easily take out my friends Altima 3.5SE and SRT-4 off the line, but once they catch ground, its all over for me.
Try racing a WRX, EVO, Eclipse GSX, or any other AWD sports car off the line.

what does a stock 3.4 run anyway? manual/auto? im thinking 18sec range...i know i can beat most civics up to the ek's. oh and yes, the srt8 cherokee is smokin fast. mid 13's in an suv is crazy fast if you ask me. imo, anything that can go under 15 seconds in the 400m is decently quick as a street car. i think the trailblazer ss is pretty quick also. oh and yes, the 3.4 is capable of vaporizing a tire. ive done it, and its even more fun if you lock the diff (if u have one haha!)

Heres an old Popular Mechanics article comparing 8 SUVs (including the 2001 4Runner Limited). They got 10.5 sec 0-60 and 17.2@76.81 in the 1/4 mile. Pretty slow times.

Yeah baby! Sometimes I miss that old car. My best was 13.9 @ 96 on slicks with a list of mods too long to list. Main thing holding me back at that time (1996) were the cams-the nice cams Jim Wolf Technology has now certainly weren't available back then!
My brother still has his '94 SE-R and he just bought an '06 Chevy Z-71. It's so tempting for me to buy his SE-R.

My Eclipse ran mid 12s ASL and 13.1s up here at 5800ft on all season radials which up at altitude beat Vipers and ZO6s which I miss doing.
The new Subi Legacy even turns 13.7s so theres' more quick everyday cars than there ever was.

I once took the lead on a guy with a moped.....just once, though.
I think I got lucky because he was stopping for a yellow light (or an aluminum can). I can't remember, as I was putting on my black leather driving gloves and aviator Ray-Bans. Man! my 'Runner blew right past him.
