Did it start before you did the timing chain? If so then does it try to turn over when you are cranking? In other words sputter, back fire, etc.? The obvious is you are off a tooth or so on the timing gears, but check the staples. You got fuel, do you have spark? My lead at work is known for being one tooth off and I, a lowly smog tech., have come to his rescue more than a few times now, so my head is in the direction of you not having the cams and crank lined up. What ever it is, you'll figure it out... don't wory.

Hey! I had the distributer in 180* off. Now cranks and runs briefly (a few seconds). Another question ... how long can gas set before you should drain tank? Seeing how this one has set almost 6 months (bugger). I'm draining tank anyway. I'm thinking thats way it only runs a few seconds (hopeing) otherwise I've got a few hoses (EFI) crossed.
Any Ideas?

Yes gas could be an issue. How is the fuel filter, plugs, etc.? Like I said, don't forget the staples. If they are all good to go, and you are posotive the timing chain is correct, then try advancing the timing with the distributor slightly untill you can keep the engine running, then grab your timing light and set it where it should be. (10* BTDC I believe, with both vac. lines dissconnected and plugged at the distributor.) Not sure these specs are correct for your year/ check the under hood lable for exact specs.

5* BTDC on 22re 1987. Put in gas, positioned distributer and fired right up. Of course I found a leaky heater pipe (bad gasket) replaced it restarted engine and now get a loud knock (see thread on "Loud knocking" lol.
Thanks
