Hi. Brand new here, so i hope this is the correct way to ask a question. I am putting the engine back in a 2004 Tacoma base with a 2.4 engine. I didn't mark all the plugs in the engine compartment when I took it out. I should have. Most of the plugs are unique, they will only mate up with right plug. Where there are multiples I did mark them, fuel injectors and coil packs. I think what concerns me the most, is the ground connection. I remember reading somewhere that to work properly, they need to go back to original grounding point. I know there is one one the back of the engine head, and another on the alternator. Where can I get some guidance on this?
Over the last couple of days, I reinstalled the belt driven accessories, Alternator, PS pump, Air con. The harness goes to the alternator. A plug and a screw. I know where they go on the alternator. If I follow the harness back about 6", another 3 of wires come off. Possible starter wires, but not long enough to reach. I guess if I am patent, it will become obvious eventually. Looks like I am in for a fun summer.
It looks to me like the black plastic one goes to the starter (did you say it wasn't long enough?). Another large gauge wire should go between starter to battery positive (+). FInally, there is a large gauge wire that goes from the alternator to the fuse box.
Also there are a couple of ground wires that go to the engine, one goes down near the starter bolted to the bottom of the block. The other bolts onto the intake manifold I believe. I don't know how important the EXACT locations are.
