Aside from this one plug that comes from the truck the other plugs come from the 97 harness, ie are already wired properly. So it matters if these pins in this plug are input or output. Basically if these wires are telling the ecm something then it should be ok, but if the ecm is telling the truck something then I need to get FC from the other plug.

Then we have to go back to the wire diagrams and track down every wire that feeds into that plug and do the same on the other side, and then figure how to marry them. First we need the pin-outs and the connector code for each side (IF1 or whatever). Again, the idea would be to get a matching connector plug housing and then transplant the wires on one side. Or you could butcher it with butt connectors [shivers in revulsion].
They seem to have played with the format of the EWD's along the years, so what you find may not look like what they had in 2002.

what i was saying though is that the 97 has that wire in another plug, so i need to depin the wire on that other plug and send the FC wire from the truck plug to it? where does that FC wire go on the engine harness on the 97?

I'm not sure I understand the question. On both trucks, the FC wire (green with yellow stripe) goes to the coil of the circuit opening relay. The relays are different, and so the relay pin number is different, but it's the same functional connection (ground side of coil). So yes, I would just take it out of the plug where it is and move it to Pin 14 of E5 which is where the '95 ECU wants it.

I am not using the 95 ecm. The truck is a 95, I am running the 97 engine, engine harness and ecm. The one plug in the ecm that isnt from the harness that matches it is from the truck. The fc wire is in a different plug on the 97, on the 95 ecm the fc wire is in the plug from the truck. Make sense?

ok so it looks like the one plug in question going to the ecm is E5 on the 95.5 and E8 on the 97. This is the 22 pin connector that comes from the truck. here's what i have:
E5 on the trucks ecm

There was a wire in pin 7 where i moved the AC1 wire, i found something that says this wire is function: SDL , can't find an SDL on the 97 though so i left it hanging.
I also left the FC wire hanging that i pulled from E814 on the 97 ECM because i moved the FC wire from the 95 there. leave that hanging?

1) spend $15 on TIS and get the '97 4Runner EWD's you really need.
2) Check physically for continuity to the brake light switch and the 4wd detection switch
3) hook it up like a Taco and pray.

What do they do? Or more precisely, where do they go? Give me the letters and pin numbers and I'll try and help. Maybe you don't need them or they are called something else. It's more important to marry function than color.

Well, not finding the SIL connection on a '95 is no surprise. Remember when I asked you what you are doing about the OBDII port? That is the OBDII data output and of course you won't find one on an OBDI '95 truck. Leaving it off should not affect the running of the truck. You can leave hitching up the OBDII for another day, although I would certainly install one if possible. If it doesn't run right off the bat, pulling the codes would be immensely helpful. Did you pull the port and its harness from the '97?

Entire? Big job. But definitely get the OBDII port and harness.
Did you make an inventory of the wires physically present in E5 on the truckside harness on the '97? These would be the only ones you have to match up, obviously.
