Question Winter and manual hubs - locked or unlocked?

Winter is here! As a matter of fact, it's snowing here, but not sticking yet. do you guys with manual hubs leave them locked all winter and just put it into 4wd when you need it? Is it safe and or recommended to do this? Or, should I just get out and lock them when I need them?

Where I used to live I needed 4wd daily to get off my dirt not a plowed well road so I left them locked...they say it causes faster wear on them but after a few winters and about 50k miles the only wear I actually noticed was from beating on it 4 wheeling(ie: torn boots ect.) I am assuming you dont have a solid axle but either way I think in a limted capacity its fine. If you were doing alot of highway miles I would disco them.

I used to lock the hubs on my 92 and 93 trucks in October or November, and not unlock them until March. The new truck has ADD

Having them locked it like having an ADD setup. My truck has been ADD all its life till i switched to manual hubs last month. As far as damage i dont think you will suffer any during normal driving.

If you feel the need or want to lock them all winter, go for it.

Cool Thanks

Thanks a lot guys! I knew you would make this easy for me. We get a lot of snow up here, and being ready at the drop of a hat is the best preventative maintenance
