Windshield washer sprayer question?

Has anyone in here ever replaced the windshield washer sprayers so that they are more of a "spray" instead of a "stream"? Is it something you can just buy at the local auto parts store and hook up after taking the old ones off? The "stream" style sucks; need to have a better coverage, especially here in Colorado where we have to deal with a lot of splashback from slushy streets.

I found on old post on this matter but there were no real resolutions posted, so I thought I would start a new thread on the matter.

I would think you could try poking some extra holes with a needle in the little nozzles on the hood.

I've never replaced them, but I've taken the squirter assemblies out when painting the hood. They just pop right out so I'd expect you could put something different in there.

I'm with you, mine just spray a stream and it sucks. I've been thinking of switching them out with a pair from possibly a...

My girlfriend's Grand Cherokee sprayers do a fine job of getting the whole windshield. Needless to say, I can't take hers, and I haven't been to a yard to find my own pair. I don't know if they would fit the same hole either, but if you run across some, they seem to spray pretty well to me.

You could also get the neon washer sprayers. they are adjustable and do a real good job of getting the whole windshield... I got them for a Cutlass I had (they were $16.99 and OEM's were $35.00) I couldn't find any at the scrap yards... So when the sprayer broke on my 4Runner I put them on. Also if you like neon you can hook that up as well.

Well, I just called a few auto parts stores this morning and they all said it would have to be a purchase from the dealer. So, I called the dealer and they only have the same style that came on the truck originally. Sucks. Oh well.

The ones on the 97+ F150 spray a nice broad mist too. I'd try wrecking yards, probably get em for a dollar.

If you are looking to get creative check out this old thread from 4x4wire:

I'd say it will be far easier though to get replacements from a wrecking yard.

Also, if its a help, the nozzles on my '02 are awesome. If you see them at a junk yard, they might be a direct fit for the holes in your hood.

Dude, that link looks like that might be the trick. I'll have to check out some of those 90 degree micro misters. I'll update the forum with whatever I end up doing. Thanks guys!

Just FYI nit-picky law enforcement will give you grief about blue or red light emanating from your vehicle.

I haven't tried it yet, but I am considering using nozzles off a Honda. My wife's CRV shoots a wide wonderful fan of fluid and they look like they would fit the 4Runner hood. I imagine all the later Hondas have the same ones and the junkyards may have more wrecked Hondas in them than newer Toyotas with better misters.

I tried this and ended up just going back to the stock nozzles on my '95 about a year ago. The problem that I had was that there wasn't enough of a tube coming off of the nozzle to attach to the washer hose. The nozzles that I got were smaller than the stock nozzles--smaller than the hole in the hood. I had to get a washer on each side of the hood and then a plastic nut to hold the nozzle on. By the time it was all said and done, it. was hard to keep the hose attached. It worked like a charm for a short while---these nozzles were designed for irrigation, but I kept having to put them together.
I think I got 1/4 circle "Raindrip" irrigation nozzles (could be wrong on the name). I checked a couple nurserys and lowes in town before I ordered them. Came in a pack of about 2 dozen for like $6.
I'll poke around in the basement tomorrow and see if I still have any left over.

If I have some, PM me your address and I'll stick 'em in a envelope.

Holy old post revival Batman!

Just curious if anybody had done a change on their nozzles?

Also, are the 99-2002 nozzles more spray or stream?

This MN salting of the roads is really killing my windshield!

My 99's are a stream while sitting still. When I'm at highway speeds it spreads out a little better, but they're are still not the best. All the newer cars I've been in have 3 holes per nozzle. I like that set up better.

i replaced my windshield washer compartment with one off a celica with a rear wishield spray, so it had 2 seperate motors pushing the water, then i tubed them together with a loop design so both the spayers get equal pressure, the next upgrade im doin is changing the spayer nozzles to 2 pieces of small copper tubing to have maximum pressure, oh yea i use alot of windshield washer fluid lol

I am curious if the sprayer for a 2000 is different from a 2002. If it is different, I might just go to the dealer and get the nozzle for a 2002 and put it on my 2000.

Does anybody know for sure???

I know in the earlier posts, Jordan said that his 2002 works great.

Autozone has universal replacement nozzles. They spray in more of a fan than in streams. I put some on mine not too long ago and really like them. I think they are pilot brand.

They are the exact same. You can pick up some 4th gen nozzles and you get 3-way spray instead of 2-way.
