Will not idle

Ok guys did some wheeling yesterday. And now she want idle. I hit a water hole pretty hard. Air box and coils are dry as a bone but she will not idle at times then she will. But when it does idle as soon as you put it in gear or turn on the ac she dies. Any time you put it under a load instantly starts bouncing between 800 to 4 to 500 rpms and dies. 97 SR5 3.4 4x4 280,000 miles

Any check engine light? How hard did you hit, shock wise? It’s possible you jiggled a plug loose somewhere, or contaminated the MAF, or shorted a plug wire, or shorted an O2 sensor, an injector gave out, or you sucked up some water in the fuel tank and contaminated your fuel filter, or literally dozens of other things.

we’re going to need some more info. Pull the plugs and see what they look like. Replace them while you’re in there and put new wires on. A tune-up does a world of good getting things running right again. When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced? How low is the tank? Have you tried some sta-bil or icy heat to try drying out the fuel?

Fuel filter was changed last Friday. It has a quarter tank of fuel. Coils and wires are new as well have been on maybe a month. If you crank it in neutral and pull it in to drive before it stalls out you can drive. It runs good and shifts good but when you come to a stop it dies .

You said if you quickly throw it in drive it’ll stay running and go. What if you start in neutral instead of park? Will it idle in neutral? I’m wondering if the torque converter is stuck locked.

It will idle fine if you rev it a little then let off . But if you put it in any gear it dies. It’s throwing a code for tps sensor now and it drives fine with no issues while driving. Pull up to a stop sing it dies. Idles fine in neutral. But when you shift out of n to d it dies. It will sit their and idle as pretty as you please but try to shift int gear it dies

That is sounding more like a trans issue. Something isn’t freewheeling below stall rating, TC, 1st gear band, something.
