wierd squeal/squak coming from engine
hey so it started as just a random squak when i turned the engine off once then didnt happen again for a couple days now it seems to be engine rpm related doesnt happen at idle or happen all the time at revs just alot of the time! replaced the water pump and fan/alt belt yesterday felt all the pullys they all seemed good except the water pump tensioner pullys bearings seemed a bit off didnt think they were making this sound but im gonna look around for a new one today. so ya new tight belts and shes still making this sound.
anybody heard this before/ know what it could possibly be? engine performance is not effected.

removed belts and ran engine, no noise!, went and bought a stethoscope sounds like its coming from the water pump but kinda hard to tell....thought it would be more obvious. new pump arriving at 3;30, will update after install. tip to newbies like myself, remove belts, run engine hope sound goes away! buy stethoscope.

You could've run it with one belt off at a time so you knew which part it was.... Mine was chirping, grinding, and making other funked up noises last week and was the p/s pump tensioner bearing. I know you said your tensioners spun fine but putting a tensioned belt load on it can make half-bad bearings squawk even if they seem to turn fine by hand... Just a thought, I'd rather replace a pulley bearing than the whole water pump. Good luck with it.
Edit:
Just watched the vid again at it really sounds like you got a pulley binding for a split second causing the belt to jump and chirp over the stopped pulley... Kinda sounds like when a belt is loose. Have you smelled any cooked belt smells? Mine finally bound so bad the belt was smoking.

thanks derockus, ya i screwed up my first post it was my ps belt adjuster that the berrings felt a bit off on, cept i couldent hear anything from that area with the stethoscop! and i could hear a little something from the water pump. i went to do like you said and just remove one belt but now its not making the noise with both belts on! water pump is still in packaging gonna wait tell it starts again and try the one belt. thanks for your idvice.

so it turns out it was probably a combo of my ps tensioner pully and my fan idler clutch probably mostly my fan idler clutch! wich is why i could hear it through my water pump just not very distincly, the bearring is tottaly shot. couldnt tell at first but now its obvious!

squeal on acceleration
hello! i have a 1987 toyota dolphin with a 22re in it. I have noticed that on the highway between 45 and 55 or so mph there is a loud squeal that reminds me of a belt squeal. Today i ran the engine at idle and manually revved it to watch and it didnt look like the belt was skipping but did make the noise at a high rev. i replaced the fan belt and the alterantor belt about 3500 miles ago but this problem has been happening for a chunk of that time. the ac belt is not on as the ac does not work anyhow.
it also seems sometimes at highway speed if i switch into overdrive the engine downshifts and the squeal stops.
any ideas of where to start?
thanks
