I've just installed a transmission cooler (tru cool LPD4589),and bypassed the radiator.
I'm now wanting to put a remote transmission filter w/temp sensor (permacool) on, but i'm having trouble locating a good place for it and was wondering where others have mounted theirs.
I've tried to mount it using a bolt hole holding a break line , on the bottom,as i seen someone else do, but it comes in contact with a pully. I've seen another mount it another way, but i still have the steel lines running from the tranny and dont want to cut them.
I found a place on the passenger side finder well,but should i be concerned about adding another 3 or 4 ft of line the trans fluid would have to flow through? its no higher in heighth than the inlet to the cooler is, just more hose to travel through.

 

does anyone know the average temperature difference of the transmission w/ the tranny cooler in your area?

 

Not to hijack the thread but first, things first, trying to mount the filter is going to be interesting, but I have seen one mounted to the inner frame rail. Near the tranny itself but I don't have any pics sorry, I will watch this for inputs as I want to install one myself.

As for the temp differential, I nstalled twin temp gauges to monitor inlet/outlet temps and the differential seems to be anywhere from 10-30 dgrees depending on load, terrain and outside temp. On average mine has been closer to 30 degrees. That is using the stock cooling system. Still have not installed the external coolers just yet.

With it extremely hot here in the Outer Banks this summer (110 with the heat index) the cooler in-line with the radiator cooler kept the tranny temps 10~15degrees cooler than with no cooler at all. Winter temps, I have no idea yet....

 

I put my filter on the frame rail, just forward of the hard lines. If you look in your fenderwell, ahead of your passenger side front tire, there is a hole in the frame. I used this for one of the bolts, drilled another hole in the frame, which is REALLY soft by the way, and mounted the filter on the inside of the frame rail. It's about 8 inches behind the stock tow hook. It sits right above the skid plate. It worked out pretty good for the lines- decent access, shortest distance I could figure... Here is a pic from the outside, if I get time I will get some with the pan off this weekend. Hope this helps.
