My truck is fine at our altitude but 85 will ping driving in the mountains so I go no lower than 87 with an occasional 91 tankful to burn out the bad stuff.

I always run 87 here in CO, but the occasional 91 gets in there every now and then.

I've been running 87 and I can hear some pinging once in a while on a really hot day.

I've never put anything put 93 octane super in my truck. Mainly Shell, BP/Amoco, and Chevron. Good detergent gasolines.

Dang, and I thought $2.50 a gallon for 93 super was expensive. Man, I wouldn't be driving at all.

out here today it was 90 degrees, and the run from DIA with luggage and a/c going it was pinging under load with our 87 "mid-range" colorado octane. most of the time it's OK, but pulling the tunnel during boarding season brings some ping. never an issue with 91, if you can afford it.

A quality 87, something with detergents (ie Texaco with Techron).

Can running a higher octane than needed cause deposits?
