I found a 3rd gen 4runner for a good deal. It has around 175K on it, so what should I look for with these? I had a 2nd gen and might just stick with them, but this is a good deal, so I just need to know what to look for. Its def. only been street driven. Thanks for any help!

Pay attention to whether the rear is howling or not, rust...thats about all I have. Have had two 4runners with howling rears......That was funny if you read it right.

 

is this due to the backlash being incorrect or wheel bearings or what?

 

do you have maintenance records?? if not ask the owner where they had their service done and call that place and have them print one out for you. i would start there. 175k miles is alot even for a yota imo. UNLESS the maintenance records are up to date then i would jump on it like flies to sheeit

 

oh and ask if it has ever overheated also..

 

Not sure what caused it. THey were all factory rear 3rds---my first one the Pinion bearing was going. My current one i dont know yet because i havent taken it out.
