What gears do I have??

2002 4runner...complete base model SR5 2 wheel drive.

One sight is saying 3.73s and another guy is saying either 3.90, 4.10, or 4.30.

I need new gears but can't decide because I don't know what size stock I have!

I would check car-part.com and go with 4.10's or 4.30's

you can find a used third on that site and just swap it in. I am betting you have 3.90.....

you have the v6 right? if not go with 4.56's

4.88's v6 = 35's
4.56's v6 = 33's

I personally believe you would be way overgear'd with 4.88's on the street with 32's......

Are you going to go any bigger than 32's?

I am running 4.88's with 33's, but i am the 4banger and its a very good combo.

According to this spec sheet:
http://www.top4runners.com/ja/runhis.../2002specs.pdf

2WD AND 4WD WITH 4ECT
Ratios 1st 2.804
2nd 1.531
3rd 1.000
4th 0.705
Reverse 2.393
Differential Ratio
2WD/4WD 3.727*/3.909*
Transfer Case (4WD)
High 1.00
Low 2.566
*4.100 with optional P265/70 R16 tire package (standard on Limited)

For your vehical 2WD:If you know for sure what size wheels were orginally on vehical:
So if you have 15" wheels= 3.73's
So if you have 16" wheels=4.100's

As standard equiptment.

*They might be hard to find,If so... you could put in 4.100 since they are the most common....BUT,I am not sure about the spline/axle diameter of your 2WD,they might be smaller than the 4.100's...Might have to go with 3.73's,or just find a used complete axle assembly.

the rear is the same on the 2wd and 4wd 4runners..... they don't do what they do in the mini vs regular taco.

Any 8" (preferably v6) third will work in your axle.
