what is a first and second generation truck?

Just a question...I see all these people talking about first and second and third generation trucks and I have no idea what they're talking about...lol...Don't think I'm stupid...Just have no idea....lol

1985 - 1989 toyota 4 runner 1st generation. Old body style kinda square looking, 1st year was a straight axle, then IFS w/ tortion bars. Had a camper shell type top. Leaf springs in rear.

1990-1995 2nd generation. Same IFS w/ tortion bars, more rounded body style. Coil springs in rear.

1996-2002 3rd gen. New Steering design (hydrolic piston located behind suspension). New 3.4 l instead of the old 3.0 l V6. More rounded body style, a little bigger too. Suspension was changed to coil in the front.
2003- whenever 4th gen. Too many changes to list. Can almost drive it's self!
