What exactly does the filter do? Specifically I mean the Amsoil variety that I see everyone talk about on both forums.

Also is it easy to install myself?

The Amsoil filter filters better than conventional paper filters, while allowing more air to get to the engine, allowing an increase in power output. It also lasts much, much longer than conventional filters & is re-usable, but you have to clean & re-oil it periodically.

As for installation, it's as easy to install as putting a cd in a cd player. You only need to know which side faces in/out.

Thanks for the response! I guess it's 'bout time I did my first mod!!!

I must be the only guy on this forum with an absolute bone stock Runner. This truck is a total virgin. Only has 40k km on the clock:eek:

I wish my Runner only had 40k on it, but at least it still drives like it only has 15k on it.

Have fun with the mods, this is certainly a worthwhile one to do. By the way, when you get the air filter, the steel grill faces the interior while the side with the Amsoil label faces the front of your Runner (it doesn't come with instructions). Then close it up & enjoy!

My 98 Taco is completely stock. Well um.. unless you count the bug defelctor, and vent visors, and Alpine CD.

Mine drives like it has 36k miles on it. Not because im a Master Tech, but because it really does. =)

Can you wring out a sponge and then pour dishsoap on it? If you can do that, then you can clean and re-oil the Amsoil filter.

Seriously, it's really easy to clean and re-oil.
