what to do? power steering pump.
whats up guys, its been awhile.....
my power steering pump started singing to me this afternoon, and i was wondering what my options were.
should i just replace it (120$) or can i rebuild it? im really looking for the cheapest way out for now.
what makes them wine like that?

im guessing you checked your fluid level right??
not sure what makes them whine...
you could always go to the junkyard and get one, but its a gamble...
of you get a working pump from a yard though, you could save 100 to 80 bucks depending on how good the prices are at the junkyard

sounds like u got air in the line, would turn wheel back and forth with the truck running and not running, might just work.. if not then yeah get on line and see what u can find on ebay or parts store.

Just got my rebuild kit from them in the mail today. It looks good.
I'll post the results when I get a chance to do it. Currently my pump is extremely loud when cold (first 3-4 minutes after startup in 0-20 degree ambient temps) but then quiets right down.
I had completely flushed the fluid last september, and that helped some....so I have hope that this a rebuild will work slick. Can't hurt to try for $21 to my door...

FYI, I did that to compare. They sell several different PN's, and none of them are the complete seal/gasket set. You'd have to buy a couple items to get it all....and it seems like it might be a little trial and error. Plus it would cost at least $50. Which is why I figured I'd do the pskits.com route.

The stealer has told me that they always replace the pump, never rebuild them. On the other hand, the Honda stealer told me they rebuild them all the time with no problems. The p/s pumps in both Honda and Toyota are made by the same company. Go figure that one. So, I would try to rebuild mine. I am going to rebuild mine in my Honda Accord V6. You can also check Car-part.com for a pump. Other states may be cheaper to buy one.
