okay i am thinking it's a 4.10 that's what it seemed when i did what you suggested. Would that be right with the year and model of my truck? also what size is mine, like is it a 7.5 or 8"? and is it a 2 pinion open diff, 4 pinion open diff etc.?

Should be an 8" rear and 7.5 inch front.
Open diffs are 2 pinion, limited slips are 4 pinions (so I've always believed anyway.)
Try this resource: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/faq/parts/

Talk to your installer about that. (Do NOT try to do this yourself. It's not worth the risk of getting it wrong and wasting all that money.) A shop rarely needs to order a master kit because they do it all the time and have all the shims and such. I replaced all my bearings and stuff because my thirds had 210,000 miles on them... Ordinarily I doubt that would be neccessary.
By the way, those prices are insane - nearly double what they should be. Check around! MY thirds for the flamed '90 are at the shop right now getting gears. I got quotes from $625 to $1300, all done with all new bearings. I went with the $625 (small local shop that only has serious 4wheelers hanging around) so I added a Truetrac to the rear and still saved a couple hundred bucks over the $1300 quoted by the big shiny fancy shop that's a household name in these parts. Glad I checked around. The $625 price was if I "carry in" my thirds, but that's fine, they're easy to pull. The 3 hours it took me to pull the thirds sure was a nice trade for $675 in my pocket...

are you saying 625 for labor? or parts + labor? So far it's $340 for front and rear ring and pinion + 220 for front and rear install kits, so i guess $560.00 ikn parts. Is that high for just the parts? Btw. i can't find someone who will do it and the 2 places who have said they could wanted 1200 for just the install.?!! damn kansas

The higher quote was $350 each end for labor alone.
The $625 quote was parts and labor, carry in my thirds and pick em up 2 days later and give over the money, all total. Add a few bucks for fluids when I reassemble and that's it. I don't have the breakdown in front of me, but it was something like 110 ea for the master kit, 125 ea for the gears and 125 ea for the labor. One set of gears was higher than the other, one install kit was higher than the other, but it all worked out to around $625. Most of my friends have been doing business with the guy for years and he is trusted, so I can't find any reason to spend twice as much, can you? BTW, he builds some wicked trail machines in his shop too! (The price isn't so far fetched - Reider offers deals on 2 gear sets, 2 master install kits, and -not for yota fans- 2 chrome diff covers for $389...) Anyway, since I was so happy I added a Truetrac for the rear (and the extra parts that go with it) and the total is only $1100. STILL less than the big shop wanted for gears only.
