Welcome me back--What's Changed in the past two years?

It's been a long time since I have been here. School has taken a priority over the 4runner, and contributed to no money to spend on it. I got to go on an offroad trip Easter weekend. Unfortunately I didn't take the 4runner because the Rocks would have been a little much for a stock 4runner. How much can a 4runner with Sway-a-way coilovers and 285's or sway-a-way's and body lift and 305's handle. How much are components for the SAW lift now. I remember several years ago they were about a grand for the whole package. It almost seemed like doing a 3k SAS might be a better deal especially if the 4runner won't be a daily driver. Are the other lift options still Revtek, Cornfed, and OME? Thanks for not flaming me for not using search I'm at school right now and don't have time to search through 80 threads.

Man.....alot has probably changed since then.

If you want to go with SAWs there is someone selling those right now for a good price:

I prefer an all OME lift which I did, but most wanting a higher lift (2.5-3" or more) are using the "OEM lift" (so called because it uses all Toyota parts) which is available in kit form from Steve Schaeffer:

Goodness Steve's lift is high priced. Is it worth it over just spacers or SAW or OME?

If you'll notice the post count I have more posts than you and have been registered since 2002 compared to your 2005 so no it looks like Auburn finally figured out how to use computers. Do you have a cow walking in a giant hamster wheel to make the electricity to run your trailer and your computer? Besides that I don't even live in Tuscaloosa or even the state of Alabama right now.

Welcome back. Steve's lift package is really a great deal and is probably the best and most complete 3rd gen lift out there in my opinion. Don't waste money on the Saw's. An SAS can't be done for $3k on a third gen, even if you did all the fab work yourself.

An IFS 3rd gen can go pretty far, really a lot farther than most realize and I'm buy far not the guy that has taken one as far as some people on the board.

Go with the tundra coils and a top out spacer up front and the 95 cruiser front coils in the back...And that will be better than most all lifts and cheaper than sway a ways i think.

Wow, this thread fell apart in a hurry....

Weren't we talking about suspension options?

Anyhow ChitRod, maybe you can explain a little more about what you want the suspension to do. Like how much lift do you expect? Is flex a big issue? Is this a DD? How much offroad vs highway driving? etc....

Sorry man I was just having fun with you as well. Sorry if I went too far. I am more sensitive to that now though because I'm living in Tennessee and have to hear it every day and that just gets old. Thanks for the welcome back.

Well I live on the east coast so Rocks aren't a huge issue. There are some trails where there will be some rocks though and I want to be able to get over them without tearing stuff up. All I know is that when I went on the 4wheeler ride the other day there were broncos and fullsize blazers breaking axles and other parts on the rocks going up. Even the 4wheelers struggled but mostly because they would get high centered on the rocks or because they weren't locked in the front. For right now my 4runner is a daily driver, but i expect that this time next year I may be looking to relieve it of its DD duties and just drive it on weekends or when I'm taking my labrador somewhere. I don't have to have everything now, in fact I may just wait until the 4runner isn't the daily driver, I just wanted to know what was out there so I could a) start saving and b) be educated when the time came.
