Vibration inside front diff carrier questions
Sorry to start yet another thread about my vibrations
I have checked a few manuals about the insides of the Front differential carrier but none show many details. I now believe my vibration is coming from inside the front diff. I replaced the CV axles after I noticed the seal on the driver's side was leaking fluid. The vibration is still there and now the new seal is leaking fluid. For about 4 years I rarely used 4wd on the truck and rarely changed the fluid in the front diff.
Is it a bearing that the end of the CV shaft goes into in the diff? Can I open the carrier and check it out without having to set up the gears before I put it back together?
I believe it is not the actual gears since only the left side is leaking fluid and the gears don't turn in 2wd drive just the CVs right?
If anyone has encountered a similar problem, can you share your experiences?
I get the feeling that I should just take it to my Diff guy and have him put in an ARB Air Locker while he has it apart.
Thanks guys.

you should be able to tear things down and replace the bearing, without much worry about having to re-shim the R&P, but I'd definately check the backlash after assembly.
Your second option is your best bet, if your planning on wheelin it.....

Oh wow, so the ring and pinion are turning because the right CV axle is connected to it? I am confused
I think I am gonna get a used unit and then I will be able to take apart my current one and see how everything works. Maybe even learn how to set up a diff, that would be cool.
