Hey Bob,
I'll get you pics of my truck as soon as I can. It snowed today, and my truck is a mess.
My truck seems to have all of the engine mods you need except the S/C. Great sound system (JL stealth Box$) and its Stellar Blue!
I've changed the suspension a bit, but its not hard core. PP srpings and Bilstein shocks. Its a starting point.
If I sell it to someone I'd love to see it go to someone who appreciates what I've done to it. Rather than to some soccer mom.
Best thing thing is I'm still in BC. I'm just a $100 plane ticket away
Dave

Well Dave... Im no soccer mom, but it will be my wifes lifted grocery getter, well thats one of its duties .... what can I say?? I am a licensed automotive tech, so I can truely enjoy what you have done... and the $100 plane ticket is a mere technicality...
I am very interested in the truck for sure.... I will look forward to pics....
As for the rest of you, this was a topic to pick your brains... I was looking for lists of specific mods that you guys would do to make the ultimate 4Runner... not " this guys truck "
I agree with the statement above " to each his own ", but thats what I was trying to get going... what is it that you guys think makes the ultimate 3rd gen??? specifically!!!!
Cheers
Bob

Schaeffer has to have the most durable, well built, and well tested rig, BruceTS has the baddest IFS 3rd gen. There are other SAS'd 3rd gen's:

On second thoughts, I like Steve's rig A LOT, he has one of the meanest looking 3rd gens I have ever come across. It has to be one of the most capable out there. However, being fom Jersey, I have to say he could use a bit more bling, some chrome rims, or tints(just the jersey side of me). That being said, that guy Greg had one sweet rig, but I think I'm changing my vote to Steve's, with a little more bling would be the ultimate 3rd gen.

I'm in the process of taking the first step:
4Runner I'm working on buying
It immediately gets a URD fuel upgrade kit, and a URD 2.2 supercharger pulley...
In a couple of years, it's going to get a TC long travel front susp (SAS just isn't any good for fast Baja-style stuff, am I the only guy that wants the long travel IFS?) and a long travel rear (not sure exactly what yet, maybe 3-link wishbone with long travel reservoir shocks).
Oh, it's going to be awesome

I agree that Steve's is (from what I have seen) the most capable SAS 3rd Gen.
I also agree that BruceTS has the most capable IFS long travel rig out there. It is a Honda crushing beast!

Hey there Bruce. Ready for big bear?
THis is a tough call though on what is "ultimate". So many differant ways to look at it.
I saw a 1st Gen solid axle with 44's on it today. I need to get a pick of this thing.

It's true the "Ultimate" 3rd gen depends on the application, you really can't have a high speed dezert rig and do rock crawling without making compromises......
If I built a trail only rig and not my Daily Driver, I go with Diamond axle housings, front with FJ80 knuckles, longfields, e-locker, rear 4th gen disc brakes system with e-locker and 4.10 gears( trails I'd be in low range so I'd rather have the strength) coilovers link suspension on a minimum of 37's. Marlins Dual Ultimate with gear driven twin stick disconnect transfer case. The 3.0 turbo diesel intercooled mated to the 6-speed... but then again, if I were to spend that much time in a rig it would be much cheaper to build a buggy instead.......
