Hey where's Mohammed - feed it to your cat, dude!

No, just kidding, I would never suggest something like that. Too cruel!
Lots of good ideas though!

(of course I would pick up the debris)

Forgot to mention. I take a large funnel and put it in the top of the laundry detergent bottle. I put the set up on a milk crate and let it drain right into the detergent bottle. When I'm done I take it down, wipe out the funnel, put the lid on, and take it to the recycle center on Monday morning ( around the corner from work). No mess what so ever.

I think that one works great, but I don't transport it in that. Instead, you get a cat for your wife and then when she buys litter, get the tidy cats crystal blend. It works great on odor. Also the containers are these great closable heavy duty buckets or these large jugs with lids. They work great to drain the what you had pictured into to. They never leak either.

These are the jugs with screw on lids that work the best:

So what do you guys do with the litter after you pick up spilled oil. Throw it away?

If you're REALLY serious about changing your oil then get THIS. Then simply pump the used oil into a sealable bucket to recycle!!!

It is cool, but I worry about it getting all the oil...but it sure would be nice to never have to deal with a drain plug or washer again, let alone the mess.

Maybe I misunderstand but from what I gather the top of that machine is open mesh-like material that you slide under your truck. Then once it's full, you pump the oil OUT of it and into something portable in your case.

Big, bulky, and expensive...but oh so cool.

Edit: On a more serious note: I'd just try and stop the leaks your tank has. Try putting saran wrap over the spout, and then screwing the lid on. Works on leaky gas cans for me. Ghetto, yet effective.

The auto stores here make you pay, but you can do it for free through the city. Another reason for high taxes.
One auto store is a ¼ mile away from this place too.
Dump all kinds of batteries and stuff.
Just not Gasoline, asbestos and the likes. (that is what it reads on the gate.)
I can't believe they charge you for it. I am pretty sure it is a state law that any retailer that sells oil must accept used oil for recycling at no charge except for large amounts (over 6 gals I think). Upstate, my local Wal-Mart accepts it with out a problem. They have a 500 gal tank behind the auto service area. I use a 5 gal pail with a pour spout to save it in. I have two plastic drain pans with pour spouts in them and I use a funnel to pour it into the 5 gal pail. As long as I am not day dreaming while pouring, it all goes in the pail and not on the floor. I make about one trip a year, empty the pail, and put it back in the garage when empty. I have one of those plastic motar mixing tubs which I put in the trunk and put the pail into to keep things clean.

I think I am going to get something at the Sporting goods store here. They have a plethora of nifty drinking, fuel and waste containers. I will let you guys know if I find anything worthwhile.

I bring mine to work and put it into the HAZ-MAT drums. They would rather us do that then to throw it away.

I have the same Blitz unit. No problems here. If it's a question of the cap not sealing, why not just address that by making a good solid rubber seal for it, or using the saran wrap trick? I carry mine around by the handle and have gladly never had a problem with it.

I take my old oil to the local Kragen or call my garbage company, who drops off a nice 2.5 gal sealable plastic jug and thick plastic bag at no cost to me. The recycling truck picks it up along with my recycling bin every week. He comes the same day as the garbage truck.

Oil=$1.99 quart
Oil Filter=$4.99
oil holding equipment=$15.00
Assoted oil changing equipment= Who knows?
Cleaning up after the spill=Who knows?

Having someone else change your oil for 18 bucks in less that 10 minutes
......PRICELESS

And my garage stays clean.
