Up or Down

One thing I like about 4-runners is the ability to lower the back window. How many of you out there run with the windows down/sunroof open? I run in this format a lot, but get funny looks. Maybe I should get an other FJ40

I've owned 2 different 4Runners, and with both of them, if I roll the rear window down, I get VERY STRONG exhaust gasses coming in, so I could never ride with the rear window open, but if I could I would.

Talk about funny looks, try having a 1st gen and taking off the top and the doors.

usually I drive with front two windows open, back window down, and sunroof open. When I have friends the back window is ALWAYS down, because they like to ride back there. Im even adding a switch back there for them, lol.

i dont get any exhaust gases...

put front windows down all the way, backseat windows down like 3/4 of the way... then rear window down like halfway.

with the sunroof tilted up, its the best windtunnel effect!

Sunroof open, rear window down most of the time for me.

You gotta have the spoiler/wing/deflector thingy above the rear window to direct air down the back of the truck to avoid exhaust being sucked up inside there!

I get exhaust gasses, no matter my window configuration.

I rarely use the rear window roll down because of the exhaust gases.

I mostly drive with the rear window about a 1/4 of the way down just to reduce the wind noise from the sunroof when I use it but there's days that call for everything open all the way and no issues with exhaust smells here except from the diesel in front of me.

On our 1st gen the exhaust gas is terrible with the rear window down, and since the 350 conversion, the A/C button no longer works So I usually have the front windows all the way down, sunroof open, and the back windows slid open.

wayyyyyyyy too hot and humid in dallas to have windows open... which brings up the alternator problem with stereo/AC on full blast!!

but when the weather is cool enough to have the windows open, its usually back window half down and the front windows all the way down. dont usually open the sunroof...

I like my back window down unless it's too cold or raining.

4hummer, I knew you would chime in on this one!

I have never had EXHAUST gas problems, but I have always liked open top trucks. the 52 cj3a, FJ40 etc.. so I keep em rolled down. Unless I have gas problems, then I roll em up and make friends suffer.

those 1st gens are looking very attractive....

I'll roll the back window down all the way at night if it feels nice outside. I rarely roll it down during the day because I feel too exposed. Maybe I'm weird.

I wheel with the front windows down, sometimes the rear window down if it's not too dusty. I hardly ever open the sunroof.

When it's nice out all the windows are open.
Exhaust gas problem most times, but only when I am on the gas hard or cruise "steps" on it.

Seems like most 4R's come with a sunroof?

I drive with the window down all the time.

I don't really mind the exhaust gasses.
