Unplugged connector under engine

I was just Fuddling around under my truck getting my tranny back in and i happened to be digging around in the front end when i shot a socket off the top transmission to engine bolt and lost it somewhere in the engine bay (still haven't found it...)
ANYWAYS i noticed a large three pin connector missing a connector.. It's sort of triangular, and large and grey and right next to the oil pan. I will get a picture.

what is it?? should something be connected there?

The oil pan is on the left and you can just see the tip of the flange from the exhaust header on the right.

That's what I was gonna say, It doesnt look very factory to me (it doesnt have any way of securing the connector, locking tabs, etc.)
