twin stick on a '97 4runner

In installing my twin stick , I wanted to also make sure I have modified the correct pieces. I removed a big steel pill looking piece from the trailing end of the 2 shift rods, and ground off a small piece of the 1:1-N-2.28:1 rod to allow independent shifting of the two rods. I also have pics of these items on my web site .

I was having an argument with someone on the TTORA board about the installation of the twinstick. He was trying to tell me that it could be done without tearing the cases apart. I noticed the photo description showing the shift fork being ground down. Did you do it while it was still inside the case or did you remove the fork?

As to answer your question, YES you took out the correct pieces and YES that's the only two modifications needed.

I see your SAS project is comming along nicely. Are you planning on running Johnny Joint Shackle Mounts?

A very nice piece indeed, but I'm going with the traditional shackle mount. If I feel I need more flex in the rear, I may go to the Johnny jointed one. As to the grinding of the tab, I did it in the case with my Rotozip/Dremel and a small 2" cutoff wheel. I had to cut one direction, then turn the flex shaft 180 deg. and cut the other way to get a nice flattish cut. Then cleaned out the case with carb cleaner. Be careful not to max out the shift forks, as you may have one or all of the shift syncros fall out. I had 2 of them fall out and it was a PITA getting them back in. I hope to have the MC09 in today.
