Got a quote back from LC yesterday on the SC for my 1991...THEY WANT $27**. for it! Yikes! More than I expected for a 4 cyl. I was hoping sub 2K.

 

Well, if I were to forget the blower, I wonder if a hood scoop would be possible. Has anyone installed one on there truck before? It'd be 10 times less expensive. Just wondering how much of a difference it would make? Thanks for all the input.

I'm saying, if I installed a functional hood scoop, would that additional forced air make a substantial difference in the trucks performance. Because air would be blown into the intake when I driven. Just wondering if it's worth it.

 

FJ-40 seem to love the 350...

 

I wa slooking for a fj-40 the other night and ran into one that had a v8 in it ( I fully expected a chevy 350...it had a ford 302 in it..I turned and walked away quickly.

ford 302s are not great engines.

 

If you installed a hood it wouldn't help without modifying the air intake. The 1st gen with EFI draws air in from behing the drivers side headlight. A cold air intake would help some...

On mine, the intake tube is up against the grille, which is where the air flows in through. (I think thats what your talking about.) Cold Air Intake, hm. Where would I find one of those for my truck? That would improve its performance. By the way, I'm planning to installing dual exhaust which should provide better air flow. Thanks.

 

Cold air intake would help a little. An electric fan might add some power, but nothing big. I also remember seeing something on this site about shorting the knock sensor and advancing the timing or something like that. I also heard something somewhere about a big scoop built for Toyotas that is installed behind the grill that would allow air to be forced into the intake similar to a hood scoop. Nothing too big, but maybe some things to consider.

Nope, wouldn't make any real difference. The cold air intake helps a little (very little) because the pipe and filter are less restrictive than the stockers, but not particularly because of "cold" air (after all darn few are getting air any fresher than the factory airbox got.) An intake and exhaust system combined make some nice gains. Headers are probably not worth the money on a stock engine though.

 

I am in the process of doing a 22RTE swap in my 22re equipped 4runner. I just came across a 22rte engine for sale in my area and went for it. They arent hard to come by. I am doing a full rebuild before putting it in, and there is alot on internal differences in the 22rte than in the 22re...
hell, search the internet on ways to turbocharge a car, and turbo the 22re.. People are turboing anything these days. With the correct tuning, i am sure it is possible. There really isnt all that much to it...

 

a functional ram air on a 455 Buick only gained me a little. It could be different on a Toyota, but I don't think you'd see more than 5-7 hp at the very most
