Tuning issues...still

Is there anyone here in Arizona that can tune using the URD software? Ever since I have the URD upgrade fuel kit, it seems to run worse. Pinging @ 2500 5psi of boost is outragous and I get CEL 0325 (knock sensor). I have tried retarding timing all the way up to 7 degrees and still responds the same way. It's getting extremely frustrating because I know this truck has alot more power to unleash. At this point, I'm will to pay someone to fly out to Phoenix that knows how to tune well. Any suggestions or takers??

I have 2nd gen S/C with URD fuel upgrade kit with larger injectors etc., URD 2.2 pully.

Email me if possible.

Thanks,
Paul

Nothing really (follow the Tuning Guide). I have tried several different ways to tune it and still has little effect on excessive knock. I'm sure the ty 91 watered down octane gas and hot weather here doesn't help.

Is the knock sensor (cel) light always on? I had the same CEL come on and turns out the sensor itself was bad. With that code, the stock ecu pulls max timing and makes the truck run like crap. If your sensor is bad (or the wiring underneath the bottom intake manifold going to the sensors) then you can't tune it untill it gets fixed.

Greedy:

That maybe something I'll have to look into. Where abouts is the knock sensor located and do I have to pull the S/C? Is there a way to check to see if it's bad? The CEL comes on @ 2500 rpm and 5psi. I've just been clearing it lately until I figure out what's wrong.

Thanks!

Unfortunatley, you have to pull the S/C and the lower intake manifold to get at them. You also have to drain the coolant out. Kind of a pain but not diffucult to do.

Does your power seem to have gone away since the cel? How are your afr's?

Power has never really been there. But then again, I'm use to have a Porsche so the 3.4 has always seemed slow. I just mested with the timing some more and no matter where I retard it, I get the same code. It only comes on at the prior mentioned RPM and boost. The code suggest it is "bank one". Which side is this and do you think the sensor is bad? I never use to have this code.

PM <96 runner>. I think Christian has the majority of the tools to help you out. Someone else in town has them as well - but I don't recall who. I installed the URD kit and tuned for ping (and don't get a knock sensor CEL). However, I can still get ping in the 2-3k zone if I try hard.

To verify - after resetting your codes - does your truck (audibly) ping ? or does the sensor fire (only)?

PS - i thought the knock sensor wasn't used below 3k rpm?

Anyways - if you think it'll help you can come drive my 4runner to compare/contrast the experience.

To check the knock sensor itself, you can put an oscilloscope on the output wire, or the input to the ECM and watch the waveform. The shape of the waveform is in the service manual.

HTH.
