tune up worth?

my 91 auto 4runner w/ 250k vibrates when at drive mode butwith brake applied, i went to the stealership to make some check and the guy there suggest tune-up and they are charging 250 cdn. They are suspecting that the vibration comes from the engine missing. Any thoughts about it and the quote for the work? thanks.

Does this mean when your truck is stoped the problem happens??

If the "tune up" they are wanting to do includes new ignition wires, plugs, and distributor then that sounds like a good idea...As far as price I don't know about Canadian to US dollar???

Why not do the maintenace yourself at a much cheaper price?

Have you had the check engine light come/had the codes checked?

thats about 200 bucks US. The check engine light does not come on as far as i know, no codes read but the thing is, the truck vibrates badly like it looks like it will stall but it has an auto trans. I also observe that the idle is around 450 so thats about 4.5 rpm units from zero. Well, thats what happen when you are almost zero knowledge on this field.

Do you mean the RPM dips and rises when you put on the brakes?

If that's what you mean I'd say the TPS, that was my problem before also.

I think your idle is set too low. Thats exactly what it sounds like. It sounds like Idle shudder.

By the way, a tune up costs me about 60$ to do myself.
