I would check or have checked:

All hoses
All belts
Brakes
Fluids including, brake, clutch, trans, diffs and transfer case
Lube chassis and drivetrain
Replace filters (Gas, Air, take an oil with you for later)
Timing Belt (if time for it)
Tires including balancing and alignment
Windshield Wipers
Plugs, wires, timing, etc.
And take spares of older belts & hoses if you don't replace now

Well thats a start!

I wouldn't worry too much about changing the oil before you go, but you'll want to check the level on dipstick before you roll out. Sounds like a good idea to change it before you head back home.

Otherwise, everything AndroT100 said is what I would check and/or replace.

Where in Montana are you headed? I went to school at MSU in Bozeman for a couple years. Montana's a great place.
