TRD thermostat installed
I came home yesterday to a pleasant surprise waiting for me on my doorstep. My TRD thermostat!
I debated and debated, ate dinner, watched TV and debated some more. Finally, at about 8:00, I decided to start. I anticipated it would take me three hours, so I would have to finish the next night. But, it only took a total of two hours. I finish a little after 10:00 and took it out for a test drive. It did feel a little snappier. It felt like it had just a little more oomph on the highway. It did reduce pinging a bit, but not completely. I'm going to fill it with 6 gallons of 100 octane and top it with 8 gallons of 91. We'll see if that reduces pinging even more.
The engine definately runs cooler. The temperature gauge registers lower than it used to.
The air/fuel ratio meter registerred a slightly richer mix.
I don't know what it has done to my fuel economy. My test drive was only 20 miles. I reset the ECU, so it is probably still learning.
I'll be driving to Vail on Wednesday. That'll be a really good test to see how well it does getting over the pass. I'll be able to determine what my fuel economy is when I get back. Typically, a trip to Vail and back gives me 21-22 mpg.
I'm in the process of a write up. I'm going to enlist the aid of my cousine to take pictures.
I will post more updates as I have them!
