Transmission Question

Look another tranmission question thread. :yo:

Question: What you cause the tranmission to hold 1st gear to long.

Reason behind the question, my 4runner seems to hold 1st gear somewhere past 30mph before final shifting into 2nd. In doing so it kind of vibrates abit then changes gears. The transmission shifts fine between 2nd, 3rd and 4th. It's only from 1st to 2nd does it do this.

Yes, I'm currently trying to weed though all the transmission threads on the site.

Vehicle 2002 toyota 4runner with 173,xxx miles

When the engine is cold it will hold the 2-3 shift until around 30-35. Once it warms up it will shift normally. It may feel like it's the 1-2 shift but if you pay close attention it's really the 2-3.

Is it holding the shift even when warm?

It sounds like the solenoid. Change out all three from the solenoid kit that can be had on Ebay for less than $100.
